Organic Guatemala Chimaltengo – Fairtrade coffee
Guatemala is a balanced and elegant coffee from the Guatemalan highlands, produced by small coffee farmers organized in the ASPROGUATE cooperative. The coffee is grown in areas such as Acatenango, Atitlán, and San Martín Jilotepeque at altitudes between 1,300–2,200 MASL, where the climate and soil create ideal conditions for high-quality coffee.
ASPROGUATE was founded in 2014 with a focus on sustainability, quality, and better conditions for the producers. The cooperative works actively with organic farming methods, traceability, and fair payment for the farmers. A large portion of the producers are women, and the community has a strong focus on social responsibility and development in the local areas.
Flavor profile
In the cup, Guatemala Chimaltengo presents a classic and well-balanced profile. You will encounter notes of caramel, chocolate, and citrus fruits, combined with a light floral elegance and a soft, rounded acidity.
The coffee has a pleasant sweetness and a round body, which makes it easy to drink while maintaining a fine complexity. The finish is soft and lingering with a light fruity freshness.

After selective hand-picking of ripe coffee cherries, the coffee is processed using the classic washed method, where the beans are depulped, fermented, and thoroughly washed. This process highlights the coffee's clean taste and clear acidity profile.
Roasting and brewing
Strandsvejsristeriet roasts Guatemala Chimaltengo with a focus on highlighting the coffee’s natural sweetness and balance. The result is a coffee that works exceptionally well for both filter coffee and French press.
In filter brewing, the fruity and slightly floral notes come through clearly, while in a French press, it appears fuller with deeper chocolate and caramel nuances.

Origin and community
In 2014, a group of 100 organic coffee producers from the Cobán, Acatenango, and Chimaltenango areas joined together to establish ASPROGUATE (Asociación Sostenible de Productores de Guatemala). Since then, more producers have joined, and in 2016, the organization opened its head office in San Martín Jilotepeque.
ASPROGUATE aims to strengthen social development among small coffee producers while ensuring sustainable access to international markets. The organization works actively to educate and empower its members and has a strong focus on organic cultivation and high-quality coffee production. The producers regularly participate in workshops where they further develop their organic farming methods and learn new techniques.
In addition, ASPROGUATE works purposefully with sustainable agriculture by teaching producers about erosion control, as well as the use of natural shade and living barriers, so that coffee production can take place without damaging the soil.
The organization's technical team provides ongoing support to producers and ensures full traceability in production. At the same time, ASPROGUATE works to build long-term relationships between producers and international buyers, which helps ensure stable and fair prices – an important factor, as about 85% of the producers are fully dependent on agriculture as a source of income.
ASPROGUATE also has a strong focus on social conditions. The organization works actively for gender equality, the empowerment of women, and takes a stand against discrimination, child labor, and forced labor. In fact, women make up about 55% of the producers, and the majority belong to the local ethnic groups Cakchiquel and Tzutujil.
Furthermore, ASPROGUATE collaborates with the organization Fuerza de Mujer, which consists of 325 female landowners. Here, additional training is offered in areas such as finance, health, and nutrition.
