White tea
White tea is the perfect tea for those who want a delicate and flavorful cup. At Nordic Tea, you will find both pure white teas and flavored varieties.
White tea – known for its purity
A cup of white tea is a steaming cup of natural balance. The tea is handpicked in high mountain areas, where it is allowed to grow slowly and gently. The tea leaves have absorbed nourishment from the clean soil and energy from the mountain sun for many years, and thus white tea is said to have the ability to unite body and mind with nature’s balance.
Black , green and white teas all come from the same tea bush. Still, white tea is particularly known for its purity and balancing properties. This is because the leaves are processed differently in terms of fermentation and oxidation. White tea undergoes the shortest fermentation, which helps preserve more antioxidants in the tea. As a result, the taste is especially delicate and rounded off by a subtle sweetness.

What is white tea?
White tea is a refined beverage, often regarded as the most elegant of all. It is a sophisticated choice, appreciated for its mild flavor and unique lightness. When we speak of white tea, we are actually referring to a special processing method that in theory can be applied to any type of tea leaf.
With its delicate, mild, and light character, white tea creates a holistic experience that is both refined and deeply satisfying for tea lovers.
Contrary to what some may believe, white tea does not refer to a specific tea leaf. Instead, it refers to this unique processing method. The refined character and simple elegance of white tea are the result of a careful selection and production process, which together create an exceptionally tasty tea, rich in antioxidants and natural sweetness.
How is white tea produced?
The leaves used for green, black, and white tea are all harvested from the same bushes. Once harvested, they are sorted according to the type of tea they will become. Those chosen for white tea are carefully laid out on special mats in an open courtyard.
These leaves are then sun-dried at around 45 °C. During this drying process, the white tea leaves undergo a natural fermentation of between 8 and 12%, which is considered a relatively short fermentation period.
White tea – an unparalleled taste experience
White tea is known for its unique taste. Its gentle notes of flowers and fruit leave a pleasant taste that will delight your taste buds for a long time.
The tea's delighting taste comes from the low tannin content, which is due to the relatively short fermentation process. Tannin is also known as tannic acid and is a type of bitter acid that the tea leaves develop during the fermentation process. The white tea's special fermentation process means that the tea does not taste bitter - no matter how long it steeps. On the contrary, the tea leaves a sweet and round aftertaste in the mouth that is hard to get enough of.

Why is this the best way to prepare white tea?
The white tea leaves come from the Camellia Sinensis tea bush – the same plant that gives us green and black tea. The young buds used for white tea are handpicked only a few times a year, usually in early spring before the bush flowers. These buds are covered in fine, silvery-white hairs, which is where the name “white tea” comes from.
All tea leaves naturally contain a small amount of caffeine. However, black tea generally contains more caffeine than green tea, and green more than white. This is because caffeine develops during brewing. The higher the water temperature and the longer the steeping time, the more caffeine is released into your cup.
A perfect cup of white tea is mild and sweet, and it does not require long steeping times or high water temperatures. As a result, the caffeine content in white tea remains quite low.
