Ground organic turmeric
Turmeric is related to ginger and has been used as a spice for more than 4000 years. The plant can grow 1 meter tall and has long-stemmed leaves and yellow flowers. It is the tuber itself and the root parts that are used, partly as a spice and partly as a colouring.
Application
Turmeric is used as an ingredient in the mixed spice curry, but can also be used alone. Turmeric gives the dish a yellowish color. Powdered turmeric doesn't taste like much, and also the fresh root is milder than ginger. Turmeric can be used in fish dishes and as an addition to ordinary rice, which must be yellow. Turmeric is often used instead of saffron to give the yellow color. Turmeric is much cheaper than saffron. Turmeric as a coloring agent (curcumin) has the E number E-100.
