Description

Darjeeling Puttabong SFTGFOP1

Puttabong literally means 'house with green leaves'. As a tea, it offers a beautiful amber cup with a nutty, sweet flavor and delicate floral notes, making it one of the strongest teas in Darjeeling.

Overlooking the magnificent snow-capped peaks of Mount Kanchenjunga - the world’s third highest mountain range, the Puttabong Tea Estate is situated at an elevation of 500 to 2000 meters above sea level, stretching across 22 km and ending at the Rangeet river. This estate is one of the largest tea plantations in Darjeeling, comprising 5 divisions extending approximately 20 km from Darjeeling city to the Sikkim State border. The property adjoins the Badamtam tea plantation to the west and the Barnesbeg tea plantation to the east.

Brief history of Puttabong:

  • First Tea Estate in the history of Darjeeling Tea Plantation, planted in 1852 on the Darjeeling hills, 9 km from Darjeeling city. At that time, it was called Tukvar Tea Estate.
  • The first commercial garden with a composite plant nursery, where they clone their own plants from the Chinese tea tree, Camellia Sinensis, known as Darjeeling Clonal.
  • First garden in Darjeeling to use pruning machines for 'hedge trimming' tea leaves.
  • The best garden hospital in Darjeeling.

The estate is planted with Darjeeling Clonal, Chinary bushes, and has a Clonal tea stock specially developed to meet the agro-climatic conditions of the area. For sustainable production, the garden features large-scale vermicompost, cattle farming, and liquid fertilizers made with local herbs. The pure mountain air, unique soil, and altitude at the Puttabong tea estate, combined with the utmost care and quality standards implemented by Jayshree Tea management, produce the finest Darjeeling teas appreciated by discerning buyers worldwide.
