Organic Allspice
This spice originates from the Americas. Allspice gets its name from its composite flavor of cloves, pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The berries lose their spicy aroma as they ripen, so they are harvested when unripe and green. They are then sun-dried, turning a reddish-brown color. The aroma is primarily in the berries' skins.
Allspice is a relatively new addition to the Western kitchen but is very versatile, often used in stews, baking, and pickling. It is commonly paired with cinnamon and clove.
Latin Name: Pimenta dioica
