The nuances of black tea
At Nordic Tea, we love all kinds of tea. Still, the classic black tea has a very special place in our hearts. That's because every cup of steaming black tea is much more than just a drink – it's an aromatic journey in a teacup that blossoms on the tongue. The black tea has a deep and strong aroma that many people know and love. The aroma comes from the long process of bringing the tea from leaf to cup.
There is a long way from the fresh tea leaf hanging on the plant in the sun until you can enjoy a steaming, delicate cup of black tea in your home. First, the fresh leaves of the tea bush must be carefully harvested so that only the best leaves are made into tea. The freshest leaves are then rolled, oxidized and dried.
This process brings out a particularly recognizable and complex bouquet of aromas and flavors in the tea. The aromatic mixture, which has notes of spices, flowers and fruit, tastes and smells fantastic. And precisely for this reason, black tea has spread as a favorite all over the world.
At Nordic Tea, we are proud to be able to present you with the best selection of black tea and tea blends from all over the world – and therefore also a wide selection of flavours. Explore the selection and find your favourite.
Black tea – the versatile classic with a modern twist
Black tea is created from fermented leaves from the Chinese tea tree, Camelia Sinensis or the Indian tea tree, Camelia Assamica – same origin as Oolong tea , green tea and white tea . The difference lies in the fermentation process – black tea is fermented from 50 to 95%, which gives the tea its characteristic deep taste. This unique manufacturing process, combined with local soil and weather conditions, gives us the symphony of flavors we know as black tea.
But what makes black tea a favorite around the world? It's the tea's wonderful aromas and versatility. The black tea can be enjoyed both in connection with a calm start in the morning, a warm break in the afternoon and in all the times in between.
In addition to being the most popular type of tea in Europe, black tea is also the main ingredient in chai tea , and is available in a number of exciting flavors such as Earl Gray with a twist – for example, try a fresh combination with jasmine or orange.
If you are more into the traditional flavor notes, we also have a number of classic varieties in stock that suit you. For example, try our organic Earl Gray Luxus , which is our bestseller. This tea is a favorite because, among other things, it is made from black organic Nilgiri tea and black organic Yunnan tea. In our luxury blend, a special Bergamotte essential oil and fruit concentrate have been added, which round off the tea and make it soft and delicious on the tongue.
Caffeine in black tea
A cup of black tea is the golden mean when it comes to caffeine. Black tea typically contains about half as much caffeine as a cup of coffee . It therefore has an invigorating effect on the brain without causing the same uneasiness.
If you prefer to drink your tea without caffeine anyway, you should go for Rooibos and other types of herbal tea . These types of tea are perfect for relaxation and evening fun.

Question about black tea
What is the shelf life of black tea?
Black tea is known for its long shelf life when stored properly – that is, dry, in a light- and air-tight container at room temperature. Tea's worst enemies are oxygen and extreme temperature conditions. But if you store your black tea carefully, it can last for years – although of course it's too tasty not to drink sooner.
How do you best prepare black tea?
Black tea thrives best when it is poured over with boiling water at 100 degrees. This high temperature opens up the tea leaves and releases flavor and aroma in the best way.
Depending on the exact type of tea, the tea should steep between 3 and 7 minutes. Small-leaf black teas are stronger and therefore do not have to steep for long, while large-leaf dark teas can steep for up to 7-8 minutes. The steeping time depends on the tannic acid content of the tea – the longer the steeping time, the stronger and more bitter the taste of the tea will be.
