Darjeeling Puttabong SFTGFOP1

Puttabong literally means "house of green leaves". As a tea, it has a beautiful amber colored cup and with a nutty sweet taste with fine notes of flowers, it is also one of the strongest teas in Darjeeling.

Overlooking the magnificent snow-capped peaks of Mount Kanchenjunga - the world's third highest mountain range, the Puttabong Tea Plantation is located at an altitude of 500 to 2000 meters above sea level and spread over 22 km, ending in the Rangeet River. This plantation is one of the largest tea plantations in Darjeeling consisting of 5 divisions located on a stretch of approximately 20 km from Darjeeling city and to Sikkim state border. The property adjoins Badamtam Tea Plantation to the west and Barnesbeg Tea Plantation to the east.

Puttabong's history in brief:

  • First tea plantation in the Darjeeling tea district, planted in 1852 on the Darjeeling mountains, 9 km. from the city of Darjeeling. Back then it was called "Tukvar Tea Estate".
  • First commercial plantation with composite nursery where they clone their own plants from the Chinese tea tree "Camelia Sinensis", called Darjeeling Clonal.
  • First plantation in Darjeeling to use pruning machines ("hedge trimmers" for picking tea leaves).
  • The best plantation hospital in Darjeeling.

The plantation is planted with Darjeeling Clonal, "Chinary bushes" and has a "Clonal tea" warehouse specially developed to meet the agro climatic conditions of the area.

The pure mountain air, exceptional soil and altitude of the Puttabong tea plantation, together with the care and quality standards implemented by the Jayshree Tea management, produce the finest of Darjeeling teas, appreciated by discerning buyers around the world.
