Cumin has been used as a medicinal plant and herb since the Middle Ages. The active substance in the plant is the aromatic and sharp-tasting cumin oil. The fruits are used in baked goods and cheese, while the cumin oil is used in Danish schnapps.
Sourdough bread is made with cumin and many in the Middle East use cumin in almost everything.
