Basil Organic
Basil originates from the tropical regions of Asia and Eastern Africa. In India, it has been cultivated around temples for more than 5000 years. All varieties of basil love warmth but not direct harsh sunlight. They thrive in a greenhouse or on a warm terrace in a pot. We plant basil with great success beneath the greenhouse plants. Here, it gets partial shade, good warmth, and nutrient-rich soil, for example, between two tomato plants, as the tomato plant emits a substance that deters aphids.
Basil is extensively used in Southern European cuisine and is especially good for tomato dishes. It is also suitable for sauces, salads, and of course, pesto.
Use in food: It is advantageous to use basil in food - including the flowers, leaves, and stems. Basil is primarily used in salads, pestos, and with meat and pasta dishes. Often, basil should be added to hot dishes at the very end, as the oils that create its aroma often evaporate during heating.
The entire plant contains essential oils (methyl chavicol, cineol, and linalool) and tannins. This gives it a strongly spicy fragrance reminiscent of clove.
