Dill is an annual herb of the umbel family. Dill is related to fennel and parsley, and its leaves bear a strong resemblance to fennel. The plant can grow up to one meter tall. It is the only species in the genus Anethum.
Dill is a commonly cultivated herb and medicinal plant, whose young finely lobed, fresh leaves are used in salads and fish dishes and as a garnish. Later in the summer, the ripe dill screens are used as a spice for e.g. pickling cucumbers.
